“Get Smart” #1 Weekend Box Office $39.2 Opening
Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway’s latest movie Get Smart took the top spot at the North American box office this weekend.The film an adaptation of a 1960s funny spy sitcom,made $39.2 million to debut as the No. 1 weekend movie.Jessica Alba and Mike Myers’ new comedy The Love Guru opened in a very disappointing fourth place, taking in a disappointing $14 million.
Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers explained :
“While the country may be suffering with a so-called recession, people are finding movies a fairly inexpensive way to get their entertainment,” “This proves the conventional wisdom that, during tough economic times, the movies flourish.”
